Penobscot Theatre Company Announces First Surprise Production of 40th Anniversary Season!

Nathan Halvorson, Dominick Varney, Ben Layman, and Josh Schmersal to return as “The Plaids.”

Penobscot Theatre Company announces the first surprise production of its 40th Anniversary Season: the wildly popular, Forever Plaid. Beginning on New Year’s Eve, the original four Plaids will take the stage in this delightful 1950’s doo-wop musical, for six performances only from December 31 – January 5.

“This is such an audience favorite,” Artistic Director, Bari Newport says. “Bringing it back for our 40th Season and having a New Year’s Eve performance, seemed to me like a no-brainer. What a great way to usher in the New Year!”

Forever Plaid centers on four young, eager male singers (“The Plaids”) who unfortunately are run over by a bus filled with Catholic schoolgirls, on their way to see The Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan show. The Plaids are now miraculously revived for the one and only chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. The show features rich and complex four-part harmonies, charming choreography and hysterical performances. With over two dozen hit songs including Three Coins in A Fountain, Chain Gang, Day-O, Cry, Heart and Soul, The Plaids are sure to delight all theatregoers.

As The Plaids, this production features Penobscot Theatre favorites Nathan Halvorson, Ben Layman, Joshua Schmersal and Dominick Varney. Music Director, Colin Graebert will lead a three-piece band. Direction and Choreography is by Nathan Halvorson.

Tickets for Forever Plaid will go on sale to the general public November 1 and will be $40 for adults and $20 for students.
