Rave reviews and a behind the scenes look at PTC’s WIT.

Zachary Robbins and Sarah Dacey Charles in WIT – opens tonight!

The patron reviews have started coming in, and people are loving Penobscot Theatre Company’s latest production WIT.  Here is what we’ve heard so far:

“Saw WIT last night at Penobscot Theatre and was simply blown away. Surer today than I’ve ever been that Netflix will never supplant live theatre.” – Mary Budd

“Congrats to all involved on a very moving production of Wit. The balance struck between very serious subject and the humor instilled by the playwright was wonderful.” – Julie Arnold Lisnet

“I strongly recommend this play to anyone who is able to see it in Maine! Get tickets at once. Last night my son…and I attended the excellent production of “Wit” at the theatre. The audience was warm and welcoming. We made friends instantly. The set was elegant and spartan as required by the author. The lighting and costumes were appropriate and professional; I especially liked the costume worn by Alison Cox. The ensemble worked extremely well but the performance by Sarah Dacey Charles was breathtaking. With a line load that rivals a lead in Shakespeare, she deftly transitioned between the works of John Dunne and Vivian’s own witty attempts to understand her cancer. Her performance was sublime. I am a director in the theatre myself and must compliment Kappy Kilburn for an amazing job…well done! The play is an emotional roller coaster, intentionally done and it is no wonder it earned the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It is surprising to find such professionally staged work in Bangor! I shall return again and again. May you have a LONG and successful run!” – Paul Warshauer

Sarah Dacey Charles as Vivian Bearing in WIT.

“This was breathtaking! Kudos to the amazing actress who so eloquently played the lead! As a health care worker, I was not at all surprised by the view on healthcare providers. While the majority of us are all about our patients, some are still not and they leave a very bad taste in people’s mouths. All health care workers should see this and try to take a different view on what they do every day!! Amazing and very moving!” – Barb Seymour

In addition to the production, Penobscot Theatre is working with local organizations, hospitals, and charities to provide a context for the subject matter addressed in WIT.  This includes “Stories of Survival,” an event in conjunction with Story Slam Bangor.  Local survivor Kelsey Price of Hampden, Maine was gracious enough to sit down and share her story with us.  See our interview with her here:

In addition to events, $20 raffle tickets will be sold during the performances of WIT. The winner will receive a spot on our trip to New York City!  The drawing will be held Sunday March 24th so get your ticket right away!
