PENOBSCOT THEATRE COMPANY WELCOMES COMMUNITY TO OPEN FORUM, TOWN HALL REGARDING ARTS PHILANTHROPY

PTC to hold Arts Philanthropy Town Hall Meeting

Continuing Penobscot Theatre Company’s open Town Hall Series, please join a thoughtful and inspiring public conversation around the power of arts philanthropy at the historic Bangor Opera House led by PTC’s Artistic Director, Bari Newport and a stellar panel of community leaders on Monday, October 22nd at 6PM.

The panel of community leaders is comprised of Jean Deighan, Deighan Wealth Advisors, Sandra Leonard, Community Stakeholder, George Kinghorn, The University of Maine Museum of Art, Sally Arata, Community Stakeholder, Donna McNeil, Maine Arts Commission. This group encompasses an impressive array of experience and perspectives on multiple sides of arts philanthropy.

This conversation is inspired by and aligned with PTC’s upcoming production of Becky’s New Car, which was originally commissioned as an act of philanthropy. Charlie and Benita Staadecker, a couple from Seattle, are responsible for this play’s creation. For Benita’s 60th birthday her husband wanted to do something very special for her and knowing of her deep appreciation and engagement in the arts, Charlie worked with ACT Theatre to ultimately commission renowned playwright, Stephen Dietz, to create a brand-new play – Becky’s New Car. To date, the production has enjoyed over 20 regional theatre productions – PTC’s production, which runs October 17 – November 4, will be the Maine premiere. From this experience, Mr. Staadecker says, “You can choose to buy a new car, or throw a big anniversary party, or pay for a legacy work of art. What footprints do you leave in the sand?”

Join PTC and this distinguished panel in a public discussion about the arts philanthropy including the values of artistic legacies that carry on for generations to come.
