NEW discussion series added to PTC’s mainstage shows in conjunction with Northern Writes Project!

Bruce Pratt joins the PTC team.Penobscot Theatre Company’s Northern Writes New Play Project expands to include year round programming including BEFORE THE PLAY TALKS with BRUCE PRATT!

The 2012-2013 Season at Penobscot Theatre will feature a series of Before The Play Talks hosted by author, poet, and playwright Bruce Pratt.

These will begin approximately one hour before curtain and will include a brief introduction to the play and the work of the playwright. When appropriate, additional historical or cultural context will be provided by members of the community or PTC staff. All ticket holders are invited to attend free of charge.

Pratt says, “The intention of these talks is to provide a service for our patrons that we believe will enhance their experience at Penobscot Theatre. While we intend to include information on the playwright and the play’s history, there will be no need for spoiler alerts. The talks will be no more than fifteen minutes long including a brief question and answer period.”

“We are constantly looking for ways to “unpack” the plays,” says Artistic Director, Bari Newport. “Any way we can give a little more information about the world of the play – how what you see before you was created and why, allows for a much deeper understanding of the production. In the end, this can be incredibly rewarding for the participant, and in ways they never before could have imagined.”

For the season’s first production Always…Patsy Cline the Before The Play Talks are scheduled for Thursdays September 6 and 20 at 6:00 PM and Friday September 7 at 7:00 PM. Future talks will be scheduled on different nights of the week to accommodate our season subscribers, and the company intends to schedule some post show discussions later in the season.

Reservations not required. Talks will be held in the PTC studio on the second floor of the Opera House an hour before the play. Visit www.penobscottheatre.org or call 207-942-3333 for additional information.
