CHECK IT OUT! NORTHERN WRITES URGENT UPDATES!

Thanks to Sutherland Weston for the fantastic poster design!

Exciting things are happening with the 6th Annual Northern Writes New Work Festival! Below, you will find all the updates as we improve and expand our programming.

The Monday and Tuesday off-site reading locations have been secured! Monday at 3 p.m. will take place at Bookmarc’s in downtown Bangor. Tuesday we will enjoy the wonderful Maine weather by doing a reading at 3 p.m. in West Market Square. Thanks to the city of Bangor for letting us transform this public space into an artistic venue!

Speaking of downtown, we are fortunate to have a number of local partners offering not only their space but some great DISCOUNTS when you purchase a Full Festival Pass! For just $25 you receive a week long pass to ALL of the events that are part of Northern Writes. Now, you also receive a 10% discount from Bookmarc’s, 10% off food purchases from Nocturnem Draft Haus, and 15% off food at Paddy Muphy’s when you show your festival pass. A very special thanks to these partners as we work together to create what is sure to be the best Northern Writes Festival yet. Call 942-3333 to order your Full Festival Pass today.

We are also thrilled to have so many special event partners. On Saturday the 23rd at 11 a.m. Penobscot Theatre is working with Project Aware and Acadia Hospital to host an encore presentation of the student generated film The Road Back. Alan Comeau, the Communications Officer at Acadia Hospital released the following statement:

I am pleased to announce that The Road Back is now a part of this year’s Penobscot Theatre Northern Writes Festival and is scheduled to be screened at Penobscot Theatre on Saturday, June 23, 11:00 a.m. Our very own Jessica Manaker, MD will be at the event and will take questions following the film’s viewing. The lead male actor, Josh Devou, will also be in attendance and will be ready to answer questions about the film.”

Make sure to tune in to ZON radio Monday June 18th at 9 a.m. To hear a live interview with one of our visiting playwrights, Joe Musso from Birmingham, Alabama. Joe is the only playwright to have participated in every year of the festival since its inception. We can’t wait to have him back in the Opera House!

And last but not least, PTC has curated not only new work but some new products and artwork as well. We will be offering some new wine at our concession stand that features labels designed by local area artist Steve Tartaglia at Wicked Wines. ‘Gruner’ (white) and Zweigelt’ (red) by Martinshof winery will be available for purchase during the week of the festival. For the younger folks, stop in and check out the artwork display by the students of Valerie Wallace. We have filled the Opera House lobby with the new work of area students.

Wow! We know that’s a lot, and that’s how we like it! Stay busy with us at Penobscot Theatre, and get your Northern Writes Full Festival Pass. You won’t want to miss out on all this activity!  Visit www.penobscottheatreorg to find all the details and the full festival schedule.
